Kaniesha's Waiting on Wednesday #15: Illusion by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Title: Illusion
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Series: Chronicles of Nick #5
Release date: April 1, 2014

Synopsis: Be careful what you wish for . . . You just might get it.

Nick Gautier is tired of his destiny. He doesn't want to be the son of a demon who’s fated to end the world. Nor does he want to see another demon or other preternatural creature who wants to kill or enslave him. He just wants to be normal and have normal problems like everyone else.

But normality isn't all it’s cracked up to be. When he gets sucked into an alternate reality where his mother has married his mentor and his Atlantean god best friend has become a human geek, he begins to understand that no life is free of pain, and that every person has a specific place in the universe . . . Even the son of a hated demon. Most of all, he sees that his powers aren't the curse he thought they were, and that the world needs a champion, especially one its enemies can’t imagine rising up to defend the ones he should destroy.

Old enemies and new friends square off for a major battle that will either restore Nick to his real world, or end him forever.

I've gone on about this series before and I even made my mom read the books. I don't read a lot of books with male POV - not because I don't want to, but because I never come across too many - and this is a GREAT series. It changed the way I think about a lot of things. I think this one might be the last in the series and I'm sad about that but I'm also definitely ready to let it go. And ready to see what choices Nick makes!

Hello again, everyone! Heather and I have picked three books to read together in February and hope anyone who reads this post might read along and discuss with us!

Our choices for this month are:

Happy reading!

Heather's Monthly Roundup: January

This is my third month doing this and I really like keeping track of things this way.  (Plus it really helped when I had a brain fart and accidentally deleted four books from my shelf last year and then scrambled to put them back on.)

Kaniesha's January 2014 Roundup

Finished:
Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen (reviewed!) Rating: 4/5 stars
The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas (reviewed!) Rating: 3/5 stars
Insurgent by Veronica Roth Rating: 5/5 stars
Free Four: Tobias Tells the Divergent Story by Veronica Roth Rating: 5/5 stars
Cinder by Marissa Meyer Rating: 5/5 stars
The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd Rating: 4/5 stars

Started:
Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer
Allegiant by Veronica Roth
World After by Susan Ee

Acquired:
The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer (Won from the SimonTeen FB page!)

Approved on Netgalley:
The Shadow Throne by Jennifer A. Nielsen
Scintillate by Tracy Clark

Dropped:
The Kingdom of Little Wounds by Susann Cokal
The first 4% of this book is really slow and boring. I can't deal with it right now. I'll try again later maybe!

January was a lot better than I thought it'd be. I didn't expect to finish 4 books. (Not counting Insurgent since I've been reading it since..... November? That took a lot longer than I originally intended.. life got in the way and someone spoiled Allegiant for me so I was put off for a while :| but still, it's done now and I'm finally on to Allegiant!) But I'm still about 10 ARCs behind and I really need to get caught up. *deep sigh* I just don't know how you 100+ books a year people do it. How'd everyone else's January go?

Happy February!

P.S. Look forward to our Combined Reads (and possibly a new feature post)!
