Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up.
Of course, as the human daughter of Egyptian gods, that pretty much comes with the territory. She’s also stuck with parents who barely notice her, and a house full of relatives who can’t be bothered to remember her name. After all, they are going to be around forever—and she’s a mere mortal.
Isadora’s sick of living a life where she’s only worthy of a passing glance, and when she has the chance to move to San Diego with her brother, she jumps on it. But Isadora’s quickly finding that a “normal” life comes with plenty of its own epic complications—and that there’s no such thing as a clean break when it comes to family. Much as she wants to leave her past behind, she can’t shake the ominous dreams that foretell destruction for her entire family. When it turns out there may be truth in her nightmares, Isadora has to decide whether she can abandon her divine heritage after all.
Review: The last review I made is pretty similar to this one. Again, I can see why people are complaining about a cliche and predictable plot but the book regardless is rather enjoyable.
If anything, I think the plot could've been smoother. I'm not a fan of how Kiersten threw in flashbacks and mythology stories in parts to build up suspense and mystery. It didn't come off as intriguing like I assume she thought it would, it was just confusing and disorienting. If you focus on this book in one or a few sittings, it's easy to keep all the stories and facts straight, but I didn't and I was reading several books along with it so I got extremely confused. Don't do that unless your brain is better at multitasking than mine (and it probably is).
Enough with the negatives! I actually (very much) adore Isadora! I read some reviews that she's bitchy and annoying - which she is but not overly so. She's trying to detach herself from people - which I get and relate to. She's smart, nice and sarcastic; not to mention actively fighting for what she wants in her life and telling people her honest opinions. A great character combination for me. She goes though great character development as well.
The side characters are all cute too and I enjoyed their group dynamics a lot. They were all really good friends and I appreciate that they weren't clingy and gave each other space.
Overall, if you read Kiersten's Paranormalcy series and enjoyed it, you'll enjoy this one too.
Rating: 4.5/5 stars.
