Kaniesha's Post: Half Year Mark!

As I sort of promised in my welcome back post, I really want to get the blog caught up with all the things I've read so far this year! (The images below are random selections).

Monthly Releases: June 2015

As of August 2014, Monthly Releases is a way for Heather and Kaniesha to spotlight their anticipated books for the upcoming month instead of the weekly Waiting on Wednesdays.

Kaniesha's:

Edited! Just checked and the book I chose for June isn't even being released until July.. wow :( None for me!!

Heather's:

While I haven't read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society yet, I have plans to and I saw this book when I was browsing through GoodReads giveaway section, read the synopsis, and added it to my to-read pile.  I'm excited for The Long Utopia, but I don't exactly know when I'll get a copy for multiple reasons, chief being that, while it's true that I loved The Long Earth, the sequels haven't grabbed me like the first did.  However I do really love the concept...  The Book of Speculation was another book I found browsing the giveaways and, again, I added it based on how interesting the blurb sounded.

Rush by Silver Eve Rating: 2 stars
Just too uninteresting. Main character is conveniently part Japanese and took Kendo as a kid. It's constantly brought up throughout the story because ~that's where she got her skills~ but there's no substance to it. All she does is talk about a boy. Every other page is about the boy, or her being in this situation she doesn't understand but THE BOY must know. She must get THE BOY to tell her everything, but she's got to be tricky about it.. because why would the boy know she wants to know.. like HOW could he POSSIBLY guess that other people want information? Who knows!

When My Heart Was Wicked by Tricia Sterling
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

Our posts from April:

Reading Challenge Update:
Flights of Fantasy: 15/25
Dive Into Diversity: 5/12
Debut Author Challenge: 5/10
Fairytale Challenge: 1/5

Summary:
I have surprisingly read less fantasy than I thought I would. I've read 28 books but only 15 have been fantasy? I mean that's over half by fantasy is my thing! I'm getting behind in the diversity and debut author challenges but I am confident that I can catch up soon.

I've also been reading way more than normal even though I thought I got into a slump this month. 7 books is crazy for me. Like, unheard of. I struggled with a lot of books the end of the month, that's why it says I've started like five more. I don't know if I want to read any of them! Fire & Chasm isn't bad, The Girl at Midnight is kind of annoying but I'm actually almost finished, The Infinite is depressingly bland... sighs. Books!

Besides that, I've been gaming and working as usual! I've got a new coworker so I might be reading less, since I've been doing all my reading at work. Who knows though, only time will tell.

How was everyone's May? :D

Our posts from February:

Reading Challenge Update:
Flights of Fantasy: 2/25
Dive Into Diversity: 0/12
Debut Author Challenge: 0/10
Fairytale Challenge: 1/5

Summary:
Hmmm, February isn't the slowest reading month for me, surprisingly! I've been reading mostly when I'm at work when things are slow and I've gotten a couple books read that way. But I still don't want to review anything, so my posts on the blog have been very minimal :( I'm really losing my motivation for book blogging but it's not just this, I'm losing motivation for a lot of things. Life slump! Especially with working, I'm just too exhausted to deal with anything, *throws pity party* Heh, hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon.

How was everyone's February?

I'm sitting at around 19200 pages for the year, last time I checked. But hitting that last goal is the last thing on my todo list, so hopefully I can accomplish it and set myself some (realistic) new goals for next year! See you guys next month for our yearly hauls ;)

I'm finally getting back into the habit of reading :D 4 books finished this month! Better than the past two months where I read one and two respectively. I've kinda faded out of my video game and youtube obsession - so I'm back to doing what I like to do best. Reading! Mostly. I'll still be gaming and watching youtube videos, I'll just have to manage my time and hobbies better! How was everyone else's October? :)

I'll be working on getting myself back into books though, so don't worry! How was everyone else's September? Better than mine, I hope!

Summary:
I spent most of August watching videos on Youtube. I've found a new favorite Youtuber, and I'd link him here but he's kind of vulgar and ridiculous. Didn't get too much reading done, not a surprise, the American school system is still a part of my routine. (Meaning it was summer and I wasn't going to do too many productive things). Plus I tend to read 2x or 3x as much in November and December so I'm looking forward to that! ARC August didn't go too well, I only read two but I'll get to two more within the next week without a doubt. I haven't worked on the reviews of the ones I did read though, bad me! I did really love both books (Afterworlds and Salt & Storm) but both had problems I'll tell you guys about later. Regardless, high recommendations for both from me! How was everyone else's August?

Heather's Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I Own the Most Books From

Sorry we've gotten lazy about book blogging again. I told you guys at the end of June why I'd personally be taking a break. Video games! All my brain is thinking about is video games. I've been playing this game called 7 Days to Die nonstop. Check these out (My screencaps on Steam. Yes, I used the name Celaena. Did you think I wouldn't?). Plus, I've gotten back into Skyrim and I've been going crazy with mods. And I started a tumblr sideblog for Skyrim! Other than that, July was just normal and boring for me. I've put in some job applications as well, please send me some luck! How was your July? :)

Heather Reviews: The Radleys by Matt Haig (mild spoiler warning)

As always, I read a lot in the middle of the month but don't read anything the last week of the month. I don't know why this happens. It happened this month because of the Steam Summer Sale but I don't have an excuse for any other time.

But let me tell you guys about the Steam Summer Sale. Steam is this huge platform/program/company that manages games. You install the program onto your PC and from there you can purchase a huge number of games and manage them all from this program. You can also download game demos, add friends, edit your public profile, level up, trade cards, craft badges, etc. So this sale is annually and there are HUGE discounts, meaning I bought many very games for a surprisingly low number in comparison. I'm not really sure about numbers but I believe I spent around $70 for 10+ games. And these are games that are normally $15+ each. So if I disappear from the book blogging world for a while, you know where I've gone. (And I totally want to post up a discussion thread about this. It is so difficult to manage more than one time consuming hobby!) My favorite buy/sent game (my friend bought and sent me some games too) would be Battleblock Theater, 7 Days to Die and Borderlands 2. Please watch this Battleblock Theater gameplay if you're at least 15 years old and not afraid to listen to boys cuss and generally be boys.

As for books, my favorite June read was definitely Of Metal and Wishes and I can't wait to write and put up a review of it for you guys. It is SO good. It hurts SO much. While I was screaming about it on twitter, the author told me there's going to be a sequel! A SEQUEL!!! I thought it was a stand alone, so my heart soars again.

As for the rest of my life, my sister graduated high school on June 14th and I'm really proud of her. I'm also really glad we're all putting high school behind us. GOODBYE, HIGH SCHOOL FOREVER! (Until we have kids but even then that's 15+ years in the future, hahaha).

How was everyone's June? Was it as fantastical as mine?

This was a way more productive month for me, possibly because I just set my GR goal for the year and finally saw that I needed to get myself into (reading) shape to reach it.

Giveaway won, thank you!

April was super neutral for me for books. Shattered Secrets, the one I marked as DNF and dropped, put me in a more or less 10 day reading slump. I spent a majority of my time during that reading a few pages here and there of DoGaM and playing Skyrim. Though I did finish 1 more book than I normally do. (5 books seems to be my month limit even if I can read three times that if ALL I did was read. Too bad I can't do that!)

I have to apologize for the hiatus because it was mostly me.  I've been terribly sick the last two months and then this past week has just been rough with my allergies.  I might not be around much, but I'm still reading!

Fake ID, Champion and These Broken Stars from NovaTeen event!
The Diviners, The Bone Season, The Song of Achilles, Huntress, Unremembered, What's Left of Me, Prophecy, Tiger Lily, False Sight, All Our Yesterdays, etc checked out from the library!

March was... fantastic, book wise! I kind of had a rough period of time because of some things but any obstacle can be overcome with time, patience and a bit of bravery! Speaking of bravery..

I saw Divergent which was SO good. There was a lot in the book that's missed in the movie. You know how the things that really stand out to you when you read, like the characters thoughts and what's significant to THEM? That's always missing in the movies. All we get to see is their exterior, so there are things I tried to point out to my sister while they were happening, like I told her to count the scene changes when Tobias went under his fear landscape with Tris for the first time. We don't really get a good reaction from Tris when she sees Marcus after that, either. Okay, I have a lot of complaints but it was SO good. You should definitely see it.

And that's the most interesting thing I did to celebrate my 21st birthday! How was your month?

Overall, I did not reach my February goals. I was hoping to read all three of our February picks plus a few more, including releases from the month. Ah well, five books finished is good enough for me. (Especially because I've read at least a fraction into each of the other books I started). How was everyone else's February? I hope you have a good March!! (A certain someone's birthday is at the end of this month... hohoho...)

The first 4% of this book is really slow and boring. I can't deal with it right now. I'll try again later maybe!

January was a lot better than I thought it'd be. I didn't expect to finish 4 books. (Not counting Insurgent since I've been reading it since..... November? That took a lot longer than I originally intended.. life got in the way and someone spoiled Allegiant for me so I was put off for a while :| but still, it's done now and I'm finally on to Allegiant!) But I'm still about 10 ARCs behind and I really need to get caught up. *deep sigh* I just don't know how you 100+ books a year people do it. How'd everyone else's January go?

Happy February!

P.S. Look forward to our Combined Reads (and possibly a new feature post)!

Heather's Monthly Roundup: October

This is a new thing we wanna try. We read quite a bit and sometimes we just don't have anything to say that warrants a full review for the books we read.  This will give you a little overview about what we've read and why we read it.  My recommendations will have stars by them.
