Kaniesha's Yearly Roundup #1: 2013

Goodbye forever, 2013!

2013 was an amazing, yet tragic year for me. I won a lot of books through blogs and websites and even got to buy some. I got my first desk, some video games, and we moved into a bigger house. Sadly, my aunt passed away November 18 and our dog - her dog - passed 16 days after that. My grandpa also lost his father and my grandma's sister lost her husband. My aunt's best friend's father passed a few days after my aunt did as well. But luckily there are always books, friends, video games, writing, music - all sorts of things to help us get through the dark times. (Since writing this paragraph, my grandfather also passed away on December 26. Things have been rough for my family). On to the good things, the books!

My Stats:

Goodreads Challenge: 63/60 (Original challenge: 35)
Originally I challenged myself to 35 books but passed it and increased it to 40 - and then again to 50. Unfortunately with the things I mentioned above I didn't quite hit it as you'll see below.

Books read: 48
Goodreads only says 47 because I re-read Insurgent and haven't finished the re-read yet.

Novellas read: 13
Pages read: 18, 269(+)

Books reviewed: 13
Reviews linked here!

Legend, Prodigy, and Champion by Marie Lu
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

The Invaders and The Hunters by John Flanagan
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

Worst books I read in 2013:

(No no no no n o no.)
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Hover by Melissa West
Nevermore by James Patterson

Books I'm still not sure how to feel about that I read in 2013:

Dualed by Elsie Chapman
I read this and immediately decided I disliked it. The main character was just too indecisive for me. But I've read opinions since then (not directly related to the book) that make me want to re-read this book later and give it another try.

Boundless by Cynthia Hand
This was a really well written book! But the title of this category sums it up. I really have no idea how to feel. I was expecting things to go completely different than what they did.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
This was so weird! I'll decide what to think after I read the sequel.

The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross
So many negatives involved with this book but I enjoyed it too. (Griffin!!!)

Something Strange & Deadly by Susan Dennard
I didn't connect with any of the characters in this one. It felt a lot like a telling-of instead of living with the characters.

Approved on Netgalley:

Masters & Slayers
Cracked
Silevethiel (Review soon!)
Between Two Thorns
Forged by Greed
The Holders (Reviewed!)
Defy
Sorrow's Knot
The Seers
Secret

Books I acquired:

(A peek at some of my kpop things!)

Sorry the photos are so bad! The lighting is terrible!

I specifically stacked them into different piles! From left to right -->
1. Paperbacks I won from giveaways
2. Books sent to me from friends
3. ARCs I won from giveaways
4. Hardbacks I won from giveaways

Unfortunately, I haven't read a majority of these yet. Fortunately, I'm thinking that some of these might be future blog giveaways? ;)

To summarize, this is the largest amount of books I've ever owned! Prior to 2013, I believe I only owned six or seven books (which does in fact mean I went to the public library so often they learned my name and face). Thank you for reading! I hope we all will be blessed with more books in 2014!
