Summary:
I spent most of August watching videos on Youtube. I've found a new favorite Youtuber, and I'd link him here but he's kind of vulgar and ridiculous. Didn't get too much reading done, not a surprise, the American school system is still a part of my routine. (Meaning it was summer and I wasn't going to do too many productive things). Plus I tend to read 2x or 3x as much in November and December so I'm looking forward to that! ARC August didn't go too well, I only read two but I'll get to two more within the next week without a doubt. I haven't worked on the reviews of the ones I did read though, bad me! I did really love both books (Afterworlds and Salt & Storm) but both had problems I'll tell you guys about later. Regardless, high recommendations for both from me! How was everyone else's August?

Kaniesha Reviews: Altaica ARC by Tracy M. Joyce

Title: Altaica
Series: The Chronicles of Altaica, #1
Author: Tracy M. Joyce
Release date: June 6, 2014
Publisher: Odyssey Books
Genres: fantasy
Goodreadsbuy the book
“Look at her – she’s Hill Clan. Even the Matyrani don’t like them …”

Isaura – little is known about her race, but much is whispered. Born to refugees, she grows up enduring racism and superstition within a community that fears her. She has few friends, and those she treasures. Trapped, she longs for escape to a different life.

Escape is only the beginning of her troubles. Having fled an invading army with her friends, Isaura is faced with heinous choices in order to survive. Secrets from her past emerge to torment her and threaten to destroy all she holds dear. Her struggles forge a bond with an ancient power – a power which may transform or consume her. Old hatreds and superstitions are renewed and at her most vulnerable she learns the true nature of those around her.

Her only hope lies in a foreign land – a land rich in tradition; ruled by three powerful clans. A land with a history marked by warfare; where magic as we know it does not exist. Instead what is here, in abundance, is a more primal power.

Survival carries a high price.

Welcome to Altaica.

Combined Post: August 2014 Releases

I've been thinking about  posting Waiting on Wednesdays again, not just to "fill in empty space" but to be able to tell everyone which books I'm especially looking forward to. But then I thought, why not just make a big post at the beginning of the month to talk about that month's releases instead? So that's what we'll be doing!

Kaniesha's:

I've already read Of Metal and Wishes and you can read my review here.
But don't all those covers look gorgeous together?!

Heather's:

I don't have many!  But of course, can anyone really be surprised to see Pratchett on there?  I'm so excited about this book coming out JUST NEXT MONTH (!) because I loved the diaries series.  I've been waiting nearly two years for a translation of Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, so it's almost a bit unreal it's finally coming out.  If you remember a previous monthly roundup, I wasn't too keen on The Magicians, but The Magician's Land is the last in the trilogy and I feel like I should finish the series.  Francesca Lia Block's sequel to Love in the Time of Global Warming is coming out at the end of the month and I must've said it before but really, if you haven't read her before, pick up her books!  They're beautiful.

There are whispers of a ghost in the slaughterhouse where sixteen-year-old Wen assists her father in his medical clinic—a ghost who grants wishes to those who need them most. When one of the Noor, men hired as cheap factory labor, humiliates Wen, she makes an impulsive wish of her own, and the Ghost grants it. Brutally.

Guilt-ridden, Wen befriends the Noor, including their outspoken leader, a young man named Melik. At the same time, she is lured by the mystery of the Ghost and learns he has been watching her … for a very long time.

As deadly accidents fuel tensions within the factory, Wen must confront her growing feelings for Melik, who is enraged at the sadistic factory bosses and the prejudice faced by his people at the hand of Wen’s, and her need to appease the Ghost, who is determined to protect her against any threat—real or imagined. She must decide whom she can trust, because as her heart is torn, the factory is exploding around her … and she might go down with it.

Heather's Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I Own the Most Books From

Sorry we've gotten lazy about book blogging again. I told you guys at the end of June why I'd personally be taking a break. Video games! All my brain is thinking about is video games. I've been playing this game called 7 Days to Die nonstop. Check these out (My screencaps on Steam. Yes, I used the name Celaena. Did you think I wouldn't?). Plus, I've gotten back into Skyrim and I've been going crazy with mods. And I started a tumblr sideblog for Skyrim! Other than that, July was just normal and boring for me. I've put in some job applications as well, please send me some luck! How was your July? :)
